Pure Polyurea. No Compromises.

Badger Black is Oak Ridge Foam & Coating Systems' flagship spray polyurea waterproofing and protective sealant — 100% solids, zero VOC, and engineered for the most demanding waterproofing conditions in commercial and civil construction.

Unlike hybrid polyurethane-polyurea systems, Badger Black is a true pure polyurea: an isocyanate (A-side) reacting with a polyamine blend (B-side), applied via a heated plural-component proportioner at high temperature and pressure. The chemistry is moisture-insensitive — it gels in approximately 3 seconds and reaches tack-free in about 10 seconds regardless of ambient humidity or substrate dew point.

The result is a continuous, seamless, elastomeric membrane that bonds tenaciously to concrete, masonry, steel, foam, and geotextile substrates. With 250%+ elongation and tensile strength exceeding 3,000 psi, Badger Black bridges hairline cracks, accommodates structural movement, and maintains a watertight seal for decades.

  • NSF 61 certified — approved for direct contact with potable water in tanks and reservoirs
  • Applied at 140–160°F via plural-component proportioner — consistent ratio, no mixing errors
  • Cures in seconds — humidity-insensitive, return surfaces to service same day
  • Proven chemical resistance to fuels, fertilizers, weak acids, and salt solutions
  • UV-stable options available for exposed above-grade applications

Built for the Toughest Jobs in Every Industry

Badger Black performs where traditional waterproofing fails — high-hydrostatic environments, aggressive chemical exposure, impact-prone surfaces, and below-grade applications where moisture pressure is relentless.

Bridge Decks & Structures

Fast gel time lets bridge crews complete membrane applications during tight traffic control windows and return the structure to service the same day. Protects decks, abutments, piers, and wingwalls from chloride salt intrusion, freeze-thaw cycling, and impact abrasion.

  • • Bridge deck waterproofing membranes
  • • Abutments, piers, and wingwalls
  • • Culverts and drainage structures
  • • Steel structure corrosion protection

Below-Grade Waterproofing

Basement walls, foundation footings, elevator pits, and underground vaults face constant hydrostatic pressure. Badger Black bonds directly to concrete and masonry, bridging hairline cracks with 250%+ elongation and forming a vapor-impermeable positive-side barrier.

  • • Below-grade concrete and CMU walls
  • • Elevator pits and utility tunnels
  • • Underground vaults and precast structures
  • • Horizontal slab waterproofing

Secondary Containment

Regulatory compliance for fuel, chemical, and agricultural storage requires a chemically resistant liner capable of holding 110% of the largest tank volume. Badger Black passes ASTM immersion testing for fuels, fertilizers, and dilute acids — applied in a fraction of the time of poured liners.

  • • Fuel storage berm linings
  • • Chemical storage sumps
  • • Agricultural chemical containment
  • • Manure pits and lagoon berms

Concrete & Masonry Sealing

Concrete is porous by nature. Badger Black seals the surface against carbonation, chloride ingress, and moisture-driven spalling. Suitable for precast panels, CMU block walls, tilt-up structures, cast-in-place decks, and mortar joints in masonry assemblies.

  • • Precast concrete panels and planks
  • • CMU and brick masonry walls
  • • Tilt-up and cast-in-place structures
  • • Parking decks and plaza slabs

Water Storage Tanks & Ponds

NSF 61 certification makes Badger Black one of the very few spray polyurea systems approved for direct potable water contact. Line concrete water tanks, irrigation reservoirs, fire suppression ponds, and aquaculture enclosures with confidence — no leaching, no seams, no liner wrinkles.

  • • Potable water storage tanks (NSF 61)
  • • Irrigation and fire suppression reservoirs
  • • Decorative ponds and water features
  • • Aquaculture and wastewater structures

Industrial Flooring

Shore D 50–60 hardness combined with outstanding abrasion resistance makes Badger Black a durable industrial floor coating for manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and processing plants — handling foot traffic, forklift loads, and incidental chemical spill exposure simultaneously.

  • • Manufacturing and warehouse floors
  • • Food processing and agricultural facilities
  • • Loading docks and vehicle ramps
  • • Chemical processing plant floors

What Badger Black Bonds To

Badger Black adheres to a wide range of substrates with the appropriate surface preparation and primer system. Contact Oak Ridge for a primer recommendation specific to your substrate and exposure conditions.

Concrete & Masonry

Poured concrete, precast, CMU block, brick. Profile by shot blast or grind; moisture-tolerant epoxy primer required for below-grade and saturated substrates.

Steel & Metal (primer required)

Structural steel, corrugated metal, HSS sections. Abrasive blast to SSPC-SP 6 minimum; zinc-rich or epoxy primer recommended for corrosion-exposed environments.

Wood (primer required)

Plywood, dimensional lumber, timber decking. Sand and clean; apply a penetrating epoxy primer to seal grain pores and prevent outgassing pinholes in the polyurea film.

Spray Foam (EPS & Polyurethane)

Open- and closed-cell spray foam, EPS board. One of the most common substrates — Badger Black is regularly used as the waterproof and protective topcoat over SPF roofing and insulation systems. Primer not typically required.

Fabric & Geotextile

Woven and non-woven geotextiles used as reinforcement layers in pond liners, containment berms, and roofing assemblies. Badger Black encapsulates the fabric to create a reinforced composite waterproofing membrane.
